Schools outreach & Forest Exploration Program

The goal of MnCCT schools & forest exploration activities is to  help and guide , learners, visitors  explore , understand and appreciate our  relationship to the the forest ecosystem and the general natural world. Our guides and teachers  steer and focus these exploration field  activities to meet school going age learners ,  group’s/visitors needs as they explore Mpanga Forest

In this main MnCCT activity, we focus on understanding and appreciation of the forest ecosystem in general, on trees + their tenants. 

 In this activity, we focus on flowering plants of Mpanga area & their pollinators specifically, native plant species that are essential building blocks that create an ecosystem that supports pollinators and creatures of different kinds.

Challenge: Walk the main Mpanga Forest Trail and explore the forest in search of flowering plants and their pollinators and document/photograph them.

At Mpanga Nature Center, we agree with scientists that Birds and  “ bats” may be distant on the tree of life, but  all have one thing in common: “wings”. In this activity, we will watch for birds of Mpanga Forest.

Challenge:  Use the  Mpanga Birds checklist and binoculars  provided by the center (if you need one)  to identify and check all birds  seen in and around Mpanga Forest and share your list observations.

In this activity, we suggest that you explore wetlands /water dwellers (at all accessible water holes and streams of Mpanga Forest).  This isn’t an easy one, you need high boots 🥴

Challenge:  Identify at least one creature whose livelihood depends on wetlands and water in Mpanga Forest,
